Friday Quiz: The Doors’ “Touch Me”

I’m enjoying these musical Friday quizzes and hope you are, too. This week’s is from The Doors. “Touch Me” is a classic song, but one line (that gets repeated several times) drives me crazy for its gross grammatical incorrectness. Can you spot it? Click continue reading below and see if your answer matches mine!

The offending lyric:

I’m gonna love you
‘Til the heavens stop the rains
I’m gonna love you
‘Til the stars fall from the sky
For you and I

Remember, the way you can tell if it should be “you and me” or “you and I” is to drop the “you and” part and see if the sentence is still good. If you drop “you and” from this lyric, you get I’m gonna love you ’til the stars fall from the sky for I. Clearly, it should be for you and me.

Of course, this screws up the lyrics, so I propose this little modification to anyone singing it at the local karaoke bar.

I’m gonna love you
‘Til the heavens stop the rains
I’m gonna love you
‘Til the stars fall into the sea
For you and me!

Now go and sin no more!
